Questions & care

The things people ask before they drop a piece off.

If your question isn’t here, call the shop at (616) 555-0173 — a real person answers between jobs.

How long does a typical job take?
Most pieces run three to five weeks from drop-off. A simple chair re-glue can be quicker; a full strip, veneer repair and French polish takes longer. The weeks before the holidays are our busiest, so plan ahead if you have a deadline.
Do I need an appointment to drop something off?
Yes, please — a quick call or email first so we can clear bench space and look at your piece properly.
How do estimates work?
Estimates are free. Photos get you a ballpark, but the real number happens in person once we have looked underneath and checked the joints. We never start work before you approve the written estimate.
Do you offer pickup and delivery?
We do, across greater Grand Rapids and most of West Michigan. The fee depends on distance and how many of us it takes to carry it.
Do you buy or sell antiques?
No. We restore furniture you already own; we do not deal in it. For a valuation we can refer you to a certified appraiser.
My piece is painted and old — is that a problem?
Not a problem, but on painted pieces made before 1978 we follow lead-safe practices under the EPA Renovation, Repair and Painting rule, and we will explain what that means for your piece.
Can you match my existing stain or finish?
Usually, yes — color matching is most of what our booth does. We will be honest if a flawless match is not realistic on a given wood.
Hand-cane or pressed-cane (spline)?
Individual holes drilled around the frame means hand-woven cane; a single groove with a reed spline means sheet cane. We do both — bring it by and we will tell you in ten seconds.
Do you take a deposit?
On jobs over $300 we ask for 50% up front to cover materials, with the balance due at pickup.
Is there a warranty?
We stand behind our workmanship for one year. We cannot warranty the age of the wood itself, and normal wear is normal.
How do I care for the finish afterward?
Dust with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry it, skip silicone spray polishes, use coasters and felt pads, keep pieces out of direct afternoon sun, and a yearly coat of paste wax never hurts.

We accept cash, check and all major cards. No financing, sorry — we are a workshop, not a dealership.
